Value Tiers (🌕 = highest value)
🌕🌕🌕🌕🌕
Anomaly / Unobtainable
Extraordinarily rare Pokémon obtainable under unusual or glitched circumstances. Includes the 2017 GO Fest Lugia, original shiny Detective Pikachu (2019 glitch window), Nightcap Snorlax (GO+ exclusive, full odds shiny), and wrong-gender hat Pikachus from Hoenn Tour 2023. These are among the most sought-after by collectors and command the highest trade value.
🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗
Extremely Rare Specials
Non-Pokémon collaboration costumes (very unlikely to rerun), old in-person event raid backgrounds (Osaka/Vegas), very old hatched costumes not seen in years, Clone Pokémon (Venusaur/Charizard/Blastoise/Pikachu from 2020 event — cannot be shiny but extremely scarce), Apex Ho-Oh and Lugia (paid research, once per account), and Rotom (shiny only — obtainable once or twice per account).
🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
Very Rare / Event-Exclusive
Wild legendary Pokémon (Latios/Latias and others caught in the wild at low levels), Pikachu Libre (requires effort/GBL rank), Masterwork Research mythicals, old GO Fest costumes (Ponyta/Zigzagoon variants), Explorer Eevee (City Safari, only 9 per account), old non-wild costumes, and in-person event ticket backgrounds. Also includes Nightcap Snorlax (shiny Snorlax with nightcap — GO+ exclusive).
🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑
Rare Specials
Gigantamax (G-Max): Challenging coordinated raids, high shiny rate but difficult access. G-Max Pikachu, Meowth, Eevee, Snorlax, Charizard, Gengar, Lapras, Machamp, Garbodor, Kingler, Orbeetle, Sandaconda, Centiskorch, Hatterene, Grimmsnarl, Flapple, Appletun, Coalossal, Copperajah, Duraludon, and more.

Galarian Legendary Birds: Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres — only from Daily Adventure Incense, very rare spawns, shinies even rarer.

Armored Mewtwo: Less rare than clones but popular and valued.

WCS Pikachus: World Championship costumes (2022–present), gradually increasing in value.

GO Tour / GO Fest Costumes (recent): Unlikely to rerun widely.
🌕🌕🌗🌑🌑
Moderately Rare
Dynamax (D-Max): More accessible than G-Max via Max Battles, boosted shiny rate, but functionally identical to regular Pokémon in most cases. Includes Dynamax versions of most Pokémon.

Semi-Regional Legendaries: Mutually exclusive pairs (e.g. Volbeat/Illumise regions) — can be obtained remotely but still scarce.

Adventure Effect Pokémon: Legendaries with special moves that cannot be taught via Elite TM (e.g. certain Genesect forms).

Global Raid / Field Research Backgrounds: Backgrounds available worldwide — more accessible but still desirable.

Cosplay Pikachu (PhD/Rock Star/Pop Star): Locked to specific events.
🌕🌕🌑🌑🌑
Standard Rare
Legendaries (Raid): 5★ raid bosses. Research/GBL legendaries are slightly more valuable due to lower supply.

True Regionals: Pokémon only available in specific regions with no counterpart (Kangaskhan, Mr. Mime, Tauros, Heracross, Corsola, Torkoal, Tropius, etc.).

Shadow Legendaries: Shadow versions of legendary Pokémon from Rocket Leaders/Giovanni.

Lake Trio: Uxie, Mesprit, Azelf — always available in the wild by region but farmable by spoofers.

Eggs-Only Pokémon: E.g. female Salandit (7× rarer than male, only female evolves).
🌕🌑🌑🌑🌑
Common / Standard
Wild Spawns (boosted shiny rate): Pokémon with 1/64 shiny rate vs. the normal 1/512 — e.g. Magikarp, Pikachu, Snorunt.

Community Day Pokémon: Most common shinies in the game. Many players have multiples. Evolved forms with legacy CD moves are slightly more desirable.

Unown: Varies greatly by letter. Event letters can be valuable, wild Unown are extremely rare but not shiny-eligible.

Semi-Regional / Standard Wild: Pokémon found across large regions (Zangoose/Seviper hemispheres, etc.) or simply common wild spawns.
⚠️ Untradeable Pokémon: Mythicals (Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Deoxys, etc.), fused forms (Necrozma fusions, Kyurem fusions), and Pokémon flagged as unable to trade cannot be exchanged in Pokémon GO. They can sometimes be transferred to Pokémon HOME where trading rules differ.
